Roundtable Discussion
Tues., June 19, 2007
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Level 4 Meeting Room
Salt Lake City Public Library
210 East 400 South
Salt Lake City, Utah

The Utah Population and Environment Coalition is proud to announce the completion of the first round of its sustainability indicators project, Utah Vital Signs. Integrating data from many agencies and organizations, the group has calculated how well Utah is sustaining its unique natural heritage and preserving it for future generations. Please join us for a special preview presentation of the resulting report, Utah Vital Signs 2007: The Ecological Footprint of Utah.

The Ecological Footprint is a well respected, internationally applied indicator of sustainability. It compares the human demand on the Earth’s biosphere in a given year to the available biological capacity in that year. Such a measure of the supply and human demand on nature is indispensable for tracking progress, setting targets and driving policies for sustainability. This is the first time that the Ecological Footprint for a state of the United States has been calculated.

The results of the group’s research will be presented at the Roundtable. While the formal release of the Report will not be made until June 27, this special event for our partners and data collaborators offers the opportunity to preview the results and discuss the implications for Utah and our continuing work. We hope to see you there!

The Roundtable will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Level 4 Meeting Room of the Salt Lake City Public Library, 210 East 400 South. (To get to the Level 4 Meeting Room, enter the Library itself -- not just the building -- and go to Level 4. The meeting room is in the southwest corner of the building. It is a large room, with a transparent eastern wall.)
