Write Letters and Emails for Tree Utah
A Woodland Sanctuary In Need Of Help
TreeUtah needs your support at this time to continue our important
ecological work. We are reaching a critical juncture in the life time of
this project. If you would like to see this work continue, please
consider helping in one of the following ways.
1. On October 15th the Critical Lands Subcommittee of the LeRay
McAllister Commission is meeting to decide what recommendations to make
for funding next year. For the last four years TreeUtah has requested
$20,000, we have received $10,000 twice and $20,000 once. The LeRay
McAllister Commission is very supportive of our project but they are
always dealing with very limited funds.
Before October 15th TreeUtah needs you to flood our state legislators
with letters and emails asking them to earmark $20,000 for the next five
years from the LeRay McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund for the
Audubon/TreeUtah Jordan River Restoration Project. This funding is
absolutely critical to purchase all the necessary plants and materials
to finish the project. This amount of money is very little compared to
the vast majority of projects that are funded.
To find how to contact your legislators go to:
http://le.utah.gov/Documents/find.htm Also and this is VERY IMPORTANT
please send copies of your letters to John Bennett at JBENNETT@utah.gov
and treeutah@treeutah.org . The more letters that John Bennett, who
is the Project Manager of the LeRay McAllister Critical Land
Conservation Fund, receives the more our chances are that the Critical
Lands Subcommittee will recommend the full $20,000 for next year.
2. Please consider sending letters to the Salt Lake Tribune or Deseret
Morning News public forum sections expressing your opinion of this
project. If you have worked on the project and can share a personal
story of your experience and why you think this project is important
your letter can be much more compelling. Your letters may be sent to
letters@sltrib.com or letters@desnews.com .
If you would like additional information to support your letters please

3. In late October construction will be finished on our long term
vision of directing Willow Creek to run parallel to the Jordan River for
about two thirds of a mile. This will allow us to plant a magnificent
corridor of Fremont Cottonwoods and Peachleaf Willows which will tower
forty to fifty feet over the flood plain when they are mature. When this
construction is completed we need to plant 9,000 native plants before
the winter sets in. THIS WILL REQUIRE HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS TO
ACCOMPLISH. Please join us and/or organize a group you belong to help
with this. For more details call our office: 801-364-2122 or check our
website: http://www.treeutah.org/restcalendar.htm
It will take the commitment of our entire community for this woodland to
flourish in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley. Tens of thousands of
hours have already been given to this effort. Please help to continue to
make this dream come true.
