Volunteers needed to call Wasco County

Here is a call from the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment.

Volunteers,

Wasco County in Oregon is on the verge of signing
a long-term contract with IPA, which would build
the 3rd coal-fired plant near Delta Utah. Thus, Wasco
County residents will be the recipient of the power
and Utah residents will be the recipient of the
pollution.

The local paper - the Dalles Chronicle in Wasco
County - has published an editorial supporting
the signing of this contract.

   1. Dr. Moench is asking that as many of you as
possible write a short, concise letter to the Dalles
Chronicle editor and to local gov't officials
(we'll get you the info) regarding the citizens of Utah
being the recipients of the pollution if they with
IPP. Ask them to reject the contract. If you can
get some time within the next few days to compose
your letter, we will send to you via another email the
email address for the Dalles Chronicle and the
gov't officials.

   2. Tuesday or Wednesday, we will give you the
phone numbers for residents in Wasco County and
are asking for volunteers to call these residents and
explain briefly that we will become the victims if
their county officials sign a contract with IPP.
We'll give you more information as it becomes
available.

You are aware that we have been working hard to
prevent cities in Utah from signing contracts with
IPP to build more coal-fired plants, but if IPP
receives enough contracts from out of state, they
will still build the plant, and we will have tons
(literally) more pollution in our air.

Thanks so much for your willingness to help. You
can make all the difference in this on-going
battle for clean air.

Please pass this on to anyone you think might
like to help.

   Stephanie
