Support Governor Huntsman's Climate Change Efforts

According to a recent newspaper story, certain state legislators are working to oppose Governor Huntsman's recent decision to join the Western Climate Initiative. They are considering plans to pass a resolution negating his action in the 2008 legislative session (See Salt Lake Tribune article at www.sltrib.com/business/ci_6363706).

Consider writing a newspaper editorial or letter to your legislator expressing your support of Governor Huntsman's climate change efforts. These include:

• Signing on to the Western Climate Initiative - www.eere.energy.gov/states/news_detail.cfm/news_id=10987
• Joining The Climate Registry - www.theclimateregistry.org
• Formation of the Blue Ribbon Advisory Council on Climate Change - www.deq.utah.g\ ov/BRAC_Climate/index.htm

Points to consider in your comments could include: economic benefits of acting now on climate change, energy security, jobs in the clean energy industry (renewables and efficiency), diversification of our energy portfolio, improved air quality as a side benefit, reduced fuel costs from programs such as fuel efficiency.
