How to Add Events
This Calendar is a Collective Product
In order to keep up with the rich environmental activity in Utah it is desirable that as many organizations as possible enter their own events into the Calendar. Here is how to do this:
Those who would like to enter events should create an account for themselves on this site here and send an e message to the system administration that you would like permission to add events. The administrator Hans Ehrbar will then give you write access to the events folder http://gaia.econ.uth.edu/events which houses all the events published in the calendar
If you click on the events folder you will see a calendar which is not as pretty as the one at the "calendar" tab, but it has the advantage that it can be downloaded into iCalendar or Microsoft Outlook. If you are logged in and you have write access you will see a dark green mask around this calendar. Click on the "add item" pull-down menu in the dark green task bar, select "event," fill it out, and then save it. If you are not satisfied, click on the "edit" tab and edit it until it is right
After saving the final version click on the "state" pull-down menu. Every new event starts its life in the "public draft" stage. It will only show up in the calendar if it is "published." If you have already published several events, Hans will give you reviewer permission; in this case you can select "publish" yourself, otherwide click on "submit." Hans will then change the status of the event to "published" the next time he signs on to the site.
If you need to edit the event again after it is published, you first have to "retract" the event so that it is again an unpublished draft.
One small problem Hans has encountered is that many event announcements do not give an ending time of the event. This is a required entry on this site, and it also makes it easier to plan. In some cases, the ending time is easy to guess; for instance the Public Library closes as 9 pm. In other cases, Hans sends an email asking what the approximate ending time is. If it cannot be determined, this calendar here sets the ending time equal to the beginning time.
Thank you for your co-operation! The more people work together to make this calendar complete and informative, the more useful it will become, and the more it will be used.
