       WASATCH FRONT REGIONAL COUNCIL

        Most people are only vaguely aware of the function of the
Wasatch Front Regional Council and its important role in decisions
regarding highways and transportation.

        Chuck Chappell is Executive Director of the Council, comprised
of 18 elected officials representing governments from Salt Lake,
Davis, Weber, Morgan, and Tooele counties. The Council also includes 7
members representing the Utah State Senate, the Utah House of
Representatives, the Utah League of Cities and Towns, the Utah
Association of Counties, the Utah Department of Transportation, the
Utah Transit Authority, and Envision Utah.
        Chuck will share the history of this very important council and
its charge, as well as future plans for transportation. Of
particular interest might be Obama's Stimulus Package and how funding
will be used; Are there earmarks? Where does transportation
funding come from and what is the budget? What is the relationship of
the Council to the legislature? Given the long-term nature of the
planning, is there any room for change to meet unexpected needs? Does
the public have input?
