The keynote speaker this year is forest and wildlife ecologist George Wuerthner. Much interest has been raised by the recent outbreak of bark beetle infestation killing trees in the interior West and large wildfires. These incidences are widely reported as disastrous. Wuerthner will examine the causes and effects of beetle-killed trees, the ecological role of wildfire, and how climate disruption figures into these events.
The interior West, including Utah, is experiencing a hotter climate. Water, forest, and wildlife are and will be affected. Wuerthner will help us to gain a greater understanding of climate change’s impact on Utah.
