While the Earth's climate is pushed further out of balance by increasing use of fossil fuels, ExxonMobil continues to assert undue influence around the world-making record profits while ignoring climate science for which there has been overwhelming consensus for over ten years. Starts 7 pm, movie one hour, discussion with film maker afterwards. Out of Balance does not just critique ExxonMobil, it also offers challenging, large-scale ideas for the global social changes that must take place if there's any chance of having a livable planet for future generations.

The Utah Vital Signs team has integrated data from many agencies and organizations to calculate the Ecological Footprint of Utah. This is the first time that a state of the United States has calculated its footprint. Sandra McIntyre, Project Director, and Helen Peters, Lead Researcher will present a special preview of the results of the research, in advance of the formal release of the report on June 27. The presentation will be followed by discussion of the implications for Utah and our continuing work on sustainability issues.

Poetry and Music Festival Celebrating the Bear River
The Oneida Narrows Regatta, Poetry and Arts Festival, a gathering of poets, artists, writers, musicians, conservationists, activists, and others, will be held June 23, 2007, high noon, in the Riverdale Campground near the Bear River bridge at the junction of highways 34 and 36, about five miles northeast of Preston, Idaho. The festival will celebrate the last stretch of free-flowing river in the Oneida Narrows, will raise awareness about recent proposals for damming this valuable wildlife habitat and its public access area, and will help foster ideas for future protection of the river.

Desert Wars: Water and the West, a one-hour KUED documentary film by John Howe, explores these pressing issues by looking at the conflicts surrounding the future of the Snake Valley groundwater aquifer in Utah's west desert and efforts to tap it for Las Vegas, Nevada.
